More Than an Author

I walk through the high, waving grasses of the Kansas grasses. There is no sign of human life, just the earth and me. The birds are chirping in the scarce trees, and the wind is blowing to the west, a sign the world wants us to move. I turn back to the covered wagon to see my family as well as Laura's waving me over. We are preparing continue our journey to unknown western lands.

Laura Ingalls Wilder is an author with a gift, she can make dreams. She has created dreams like that for kids all around the world... including me. Her writing has a magic draw for people with imaginations. Perhaps it is the way she makes the prarie of long ago come to life again. Maybe it is her details, that lets you feel as if you are there. Or maybe it is how she makes her characters feel like friends. Whatever it is, it makes her stories some of the best in the world.
Most people these days don't live on open praries. We live in towns clouded by buildings, cars,
and machines. We have many good things Laura didn't have, but we are missing a lot too. She creates a mysterious pictire to us, miles of miles of untouched land. Her stories have helped me to learn to appreciate all the untouched land that we stll have. She has inspired at least me to love and protect nature. Everyone who reads her books wishes at least once that they could live as she did.
Yet another reason Laura's books are so popular is her unique style of storytelling. Everything she is writing about is so vivid to her, so she can make it vivid to us. Don't call me crazy, but people agree, her books are often better than television. She gives tons of discriptions, but still leaves scope for imagination (as another famous character would say.) I've watched many T.V. adaptations of her books, but none are as good as the real books. No one can capture her memories as well as she can. She is a naturally good writer, but she is her secret to stand out in the croud. Her descriptions and her attention to detail make her one of the best storytellers of all time.
The most compelling reason, to me, that her books are such a success are her characters, these were real people and she can use words to bring them alive again. I have great friends and family, but sometimes you need to go away. Laura's family have always been there for me. I know I can always rely on Pa's fiddle music, Mary, Laura, Carrie, and Grace's cheerful play, and Ma's helpful advice to clean my soul. Pretty soon I am ready to go bak to my world with a pleasant attitude. They all have became very real to me. They have always been there, and they always will. I can count on them.
Laura Ingalls Wilder is more than an author. She is a wizard of storycrafting. From simple words she can create emotions almost as real as the true things. She has a way of telling stories no one else will ever be able to capture. I love most books I read, but the Little House books have always stood out. Plain out simple, her books as, well as she, are amazing, and I hope people recognize it.

Happy Earth Day one and all! It is that time of year again, the time when you should start being kinder to our Earth and making habits to protect our planet! The spring is one of the best times to do this because the spring is about rebirth. Everything is green again and everything is happy!
Some things you can do to help our Earth include-

  • Walk or bike instead of driving.
  • Try to limit water use, take shorter showers and don't keep the faucet on while you brush your teeth.
  • Use both sides of the paper.
  • Buy recycled paper.
  • Write on the back of notices etc.
  • Eat left-overs instead of throwing them away.
  • Turn off your car while parked. (No Idling)
  • Turn off electronics when you are not using them.

Dog, Cat, and Pig Stories

The Dog, Cat, and Pig stories are a series of little stories my little sister Maggie likes to tell. She is 7. She makes books of them and draws pictures to go with it. Here is a story I think you will enjoy.

One day, Dog, Cat, and Pig said that they were going to go to a Chorus Line (the play) and they could pick one friend to bring with them. And they all picked Horse. They had to get ready quick. So, they packed up and were ready to go. So they set of to the theartre. But on the way to the thearter, they got caught in traffic. But finally they got out of the traffic. And they made it to the play in time. When they were waching it the almost fell asleep. But luckly Horse woke them up witha loud niegh. after that they had lunch. And then they went back to the Chous Line! the after that they had dinner annd went back home. But on the way bak home they fell asleep again! Then horse said NIEGH we are stuck in traffic agin! And it woke Dog, Cat, an Pig up again! And finally they got home to the sleepover and went to sleep very easily! THE END!!!!!:)

Quotes

"The ability to quote is a passable substitute for wit." - M. Somerset Maughm

This is so true. Quotes are really just words said by a whole bunch of smart people. But when we read them and say them, we feel as if we have the keys to the universe. Every quote said is true in a way if you think about it. It is another person's perspesctive on the world.

Some quotes are funny (or are trying to be). Others have meaning. Some teach a lesson. But all quotes have been said by someone just like you. Say something with power, make it a quote.

Lighten up your day, heres quotes that are funny-

"A flute with no holes is not a flute. A donut with no hole.. is a danish." -Ty Webb

" Duck tape is like The Force: it has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together." -Anonymous

"The dead batteries were given out free of charge." -Anonymous

"No matter where you go, there you are." -From Buckaroo Banzai

Here are some with deep meaning that will make you think-

"Life is rich and full here... everywhere... if we can only learn how to open our whole hearts to its richness and fullness." -L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables)

"And yet, she reminded herself, look at all the remarkable things she and Doon have done! It wasn't because they had extraordinary powers, really, but because they used the ordinary powers everyone had; the power of courage, the power of kindness, and the powers of curiosity and knowledge." -Jeanne DuPrau (The Diamond of Darkhold)

"He was a traveler through days and weeks and years of time." -Hillary McKay (Indigo's Star)

Here are some with a lesson-

"There's nothing the matter with his mind. He just does things in his own way and in his own time."- Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time)

"Go outside, to the fields, enjoy nature and the sunshine, go out and try to recapture happiness in yourself and God. Think of all the beauty that's still left in and be happy!" -Anne Frank

"Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

And here is some knowledge from a silly old bear and his friends that I just like-

"Poetry and Hums aren't things in which you get, they're things that get you. And all you can do is to go where they can find you."

"When you first wake up in the morning, Pooh' said Piglet at last, 'What's the first thing you say to yourself?' 'What's for breakfast?' said Pooh. 'What do you say, Piglet?' 'I say, I wonder what's going to happen today?'"

"Christopher Robin came down from the Forest to the bridge, feeling all sunny and careless, and just as if twice nineteen didn't matter a bit, as it didn't on such a happy afternoon, and he thought if he stood at the bottom rail of the bridge, and leant over, and watched the river slipping slowly away beneath him, then he would suddenly know all there was to be known, and he would be able to tell Pooh, who wasn't quite sure about some of it."

I hope you enjoy these tidbits of knowledge!
